This sculptured stone can be seen in the museum in Luxor.
Akhenaton's original name was Amenophis 1V, and sculptors and artists had considerable puzzlement about how to depict the man with his unusual features such as an elongated head and a huge and/or deformed mid-region. He failed to appear on any monuments during his father's reign.
Akhenaton artists were informed to portrayed him exactly as he was, emphasizing the extraordinary features which made him different from others!
This story has been pieced together from remnants of what is known as "talatat," or relief wall carvings about events which took place.
Other sources of information are the Amarna tablets, diplomatic correspondence with rulers and vassals in western Asia. They were accidentally discovered in 1887.
